Work introduction

Commentary

"Stag Beetle Forest Blue" by Kutani ware master Taka Satoshi.

This work, titled "Forest Blue," evokes the image of light shining into the depths of a deep forest, creating a beautiful, sparkling landscape. While beetles are traditionally associated with soil and trees, Taka's depiction of them invites the viewer into a world of the fresh blue of the forest.

Takashi is one of the rare legitimate heirs to the style of the master Kutani Shozo, who captivated the world and led the Japonism movement. From "Saishiki Kinrande," featuring vibrant colors and gold, to "Akae Saigai," which requires virtuosity, Takashi's highly artistic expression, which is only possible because he has mastered the various techniques of Kutani, shines through in every detail.

This outstanding skill is embodied in the "kinrande" (gold brocade) painting that covers the entire back of the rhinoceros beetle. The intricately painted patterns, reminiscent of leaves and flowers, are like a faithful reproduction of the lush vegetation of the forest. The gradation of colors, which changes from deep indigo to pale blue, further enhances the noble gold that is the main focus. The design of the magnificent horns, which are a symbol of the rhinoceros beetle, is also excellent, adding elegance as a work of art to the beetle's regal presence.
There is no compromise in the design, and brass is used for details such as the feet, giving the piece just the right amount of weight.

This is a precious masterpiece that was acquired through a special connection and shines with the highest level of skill and sensibility in modern Kutani.
