Graduated from the Design Department at Ishikawa Prefectural High School of Technology. Won the Governor of Tokyo Award, Asahi Shimbun Special Award (Hokuka Award), and Grand Prix at the Creative Arts Exhibition. Selected for the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition. Won the Excellence Award and Hokkoku Shimbun Award at the Ishikawa Traditional Crafts Exhibition. Won an award at the Kutani Ware Industrial Design Contest. Specially crafted tea bowls used by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress upon their visit to Ishikawa Prefecture. Selected by the Japan Foundation for the International Touring Exhibition of Japanese Traditional Crafts. Won First Place Grand Prix and the Prime Minister's Award at the 23rd National Traditional Crafts Competition. Won the Grand Prix at the 25th and 27th Traditional Kutani Ware Crafts Exhibitions (works housed in Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art). Works acquired by Midorigaoka Museum of Art, Ikoma, Nara. Certified as a member of the Kutani Ware Technique Preservation Society (Ishikawa Prefecture Designated Intangible Cultural Property). Exhibited at the Kaga Akae National Touring Exhibition (sponsored by Asahi Shimbun). Crafted watch dials ("Koma-kurabe") for Hermès. Created the ceramic mural "Megumi" (Blessings) at Kanazawa Station. Won the 1st Mitsui Golden Takumi Award. Received the Ishikawa Cultural Merit Award. Received the Nomi Cultural Merit Award. Held exhibition "Tracing Dimensions: A Red Microcosm" at Nara Midorigaoka Museum of Art. Selected work for the 67th Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition purchased by the Imperial Household Agency. Won the 44th Ishikawa TV Award. |

Akae Saibyo (intricate red painting) is a masterwork technique of rendering motifs and imagery using ultra-fine lines drawn with bengara (red iron oxide) pigment. Within the long history of Kutani ware, this intricate red painting tradition (Sano Akae)—which had once come close to extinction—was brought back to vibrant life through the efforts of Fukushima Buzan.
Through the delicacy of his patterns and the expressive variation in line weight, his overglaze painting achieves a rich, profound, and radiant presence despite using only a single shade of red, captivating all who behold it. His works enjoy immense popularity within Japan and earn high acclaim globally.
Furthermore, he has mentored numerous disciples over the years, many of whom are now actively thriving in the ceramic art world themselves.
