Work introduction
A delicate and elegant red-glazed vase by Fukushima Takeyama, a one-of-a-kind piece, "9.5" Vase with Sakura Dance
Fukushima Takeyama's signature style, "Akae Saibyo," is a supreme technique that makes extensive use of extremely fine lines, sometimes thinner than a hair, and is created using only shades of red.
This vase, named "Sakura Dance," is decorated with small patterns, cherry blossoms, and birds, but what is astonishing is the richness of the colors, which makes it hard to believe it is all red. From a distance, the gorgeousness captivates, but when you look closely, you realize that the vase is densely packed with intricate lines that are mind-bogglingly detailed. The closer you get, the more you are overwhelmed by the delicate handiwork, and the "quiet power" hidden within, making it truly worthy of being called a work of god.
One cannot help but admire Fukushima's exceptional "compositional genius" in this work. From the meticulously and systematically drawn small pattern to the graceful cherry blossoms that float softly and gently, and the birds that fly freely and freely. I feel that the true essence of this work lies in this vivid contrast and the exquisite "use of white space." Amidst the intensely detailed depiction, there coexists a spaciousness that seems to breathe, giving the work a deep depth and a pleasant rhythm.
The word "Ouju" (required) is inscribed on the inside of the lid of the paulownia wood box that contains this work, proving that it is an authentic piece made specifically to order. It expresses the pride and value of this unique piece of art, into which the artist poured his unstinting skills and finest composition.

Fukushima Takeyama
A leading expert in detailed red-glazed painting.
A fascinating world of red created by extremely fine lines
Akae saibyo is a superb technique of drawing patterns and pictures with extremely fine lines using the red of Bengara. In the long history of Kutani ware, this Akae saibyo (Sano Akae) technique was once on the verge of being discontinued, but it was Fukushima Takeyama who revived it.
The intricate patterns and the strength and weakness of the lines create a rich, deep and gorgeous overglaze design, captivating the viewer despite being a single red color. His works are immensely popular in Japan and highly regarded around the world.
He has also produced many disciples, who are also active in the industry.
