Work introduction
The Beauty of White and Gold Woven by Nakada Kingyoku III: "Incense Burner: White Chibu Granulation & Gold Clematis"
A masterpiece filled with pure, refined allure—featuring white-on-white Chibu granulation forming swirl patterns across the background, crowned with glowing, raised-gold clematis motifs.
Chibu-uchi (granulation technique) is a traditional Kutani method using a tube tool called an icchin to apply droplets of pigment one by one with uniform precision. The white dots applied to this vessel carry a soft, rounded dimension, where subtle play of light and shadow bestows exquisite depth. The signature swirl patterns of Nakada Kingyoku III evoke ripples gracefully spreading across water, creating a dreamlike ambiance. The delicate beauty born from white dots upon a white porcelain body leaves a profound impression.
Emerging from this white backdrop, the clematis rendered in Mori-kin (raised gold) is exceptionally breathtaking. Clematis, with its strong, intertwining vines, is an auspicious motif symbolizing strong bonds. The flowing curves of the vines are remarkably elegant, and the gold radiance feels pure and gentle, resonating softly with the white porcelain.
A gourd adorns the knob of the lid, complementing the vessel's rounded silhouette. These elements wrap the aristocratic white-and-gold design in a warm, gentle atmosphere.
While an august creation poured with masterly technique, it remains a tranquil treasure—one that relaxes the soul and fills the viewer with quiet comfort upon every glance.

Nakada Kingyoku III
Inherited "Morikin Aotsubu" Technique:
An Unrivaled Beauty of Pointillism
Nakada Kingyoku III is the leading authority in the Aotsubu Morikin (blue dots and raised gold) technique.
Aotsubu is an overglaze relief technique in which tiny dots are applied densely across the surface, featuring variations such as shirotsubu (white dots) alongside blue. The hallmark of Nakada Kingyoku's aotsubu lies in the remarkably uniform size and spacing of each dot, which collectively form mesmerizing spiral patterns. Using a specialized piping tool called an icchin, he rhythmically places each dot onto the ceramic vessel.
Meanwhile, morikin is a technique in which patterns are first built up in relief using bengara (red iron oxide) paste before being coated with liquid gold. Nakada Kingyoku sources 24-karat gold leaf directly from Kanazawa and refines his own gold pigment. Backed by authentic materials and master craft, this beauty is truly one of a kind.
