Work introduction

Commentary

The intricate red enamel and the brilliant gold work create a blissful piece that you will want to gaze upon forever. This is Taka Satoshi's "Red-painted Gold Brocade Small Pattern Stand Plate."

Taka Sobun is one of the leading contemporary Kutani artists. He is a rare figure who has authentically inherited the style of the master Kutani Shozo, a master craftsman who once led the Japonism movement and gained fans around the world. Shozo's style, from the vibrant colors and vibrant gold of "Saishiki Kinrande" to the delicate brushwork of "Akae Saisaku," is a culmination that can only be achieved by mastering every technique of Kutani ware. In this highly challenging world, Taka has demonstrated overwhelming technical skill and expressive power, producing one highly artistic piece after another.

This piece is a pedestal plate (a tall plate with legs) made to serve as a lid. When viewed from directly above, the red enamel and the luxurious gold paint, befitting the name "kinran," create an intricate geometric pattern, with large flowers emerging from it. While the aura of its overwhelming beauty captivates, shifting your gaze to the side brings into sharp focus the splendor of the composition, which makes use of the white space. The vivid contrast is truly beautiful.

Taka's creations are completely custom-made, starting not only with the painting but also with the design of the base. This produces unparalleled originality. This work also has a unique shape that reflects this attention to detail, and has a presence that is unforgettable once you see it. This piece boasts an outstanding level of perfection that is in no way inferior to works exhibited at solo exhibitions. This piece was given to us through a special connection, and is truly a rare and precious piece.
